Not your average broker, Mara Haveson began her career by earning her real estate license at the young age of 18. By age 19, she had bought her first house, used city grants to remodel it, and sold it for a profit. Before her 21st birthday, she had closed everything from multi-family and single-family homes to commercial and industrial properties.
Mara had a knack for the business. In fact, you could say real estate was in her blood. She grew up in the industry helping her parents run a boutique real estate business in Pittsburg, PA. In addition to growing up in the biz, Mara also grew up in a home dating back to the 1800s. Through this unique experience, and being exposed to hundreds of historic Pennsylvania properties along the way, Mara developed an appreciation for historic homes, elaborate stonework, detailed millwork, and craftsmanship. Between her real estate background, love for timeless quality homes, and her desire to learn more, the stage was set for her next chapter: A move out West with her husband to build their own homes, businesses and start a family.
Amidst building her first home, Mara earned her Washington State real estate license followed by her broker’s license.
“The sense of community at COMPASS and in West Seattle is amazing.”
Mara is a huge believer in West Seattle, both for her business and personal life. Year after year she is one of COMPASS’s top producers listing, selling, developing, and building locally all while being involved with her kids’ school and local charities such as Westside Baby. She has also become a true Pacific Northwesterner enjoying time with her family skiing in the winter, and hiking, gardening, crabbing, and shrimping in the summer.
Averaging over 35 million in sales annually, Mara is truly invested in her home and career and is now considered a veteran with 100% of her business being referrals. She holds such titles as Master Negotiator, Managing Broker, ASP (Accredited Staging Professional), QSC (Quality Service Certified), and ABR Accredited Buyers Representative). It’s taken years to get to this point, but she can now say she’s done it all—from being a realtor and broker to working with escrow, banks, attorneys, landscapers, architects, contractors, developers, and hundreds of clients.
“I love seeing my long-term clients come back time after time as their lives progress and they are ready for the next step. A client may have bought her first condo with me, then got married and bought her first family home with me, and now she’s ready to step up to a home with a view. It’s very rewarding.”
Mara prides herself on being her clients’ advocate no matter where they are on life’s journey.
“Whatever your personal situation, I take it to heart and truly care. There is a real sense of satisfaction when I know I’ve helped my clients get from here to there—that we’ve accomplished our goal.”
To this day Mara continues to buck the trend for what is considered normal in the real estate world. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. In reflecting on her career, she smiles and pulls out one of her favorite quotes:
“We can always be average and do what is normal; I am not in this to do what is normal.”
